Peer-to-peer car rental in Portland
Alvro is a peer-to-peer car-sharing marketplace from Alvro LLC, based in Boise, Idaho. Local hosts will share the cars they own, and guests will rent them. Alvro is launching in Portland and expects to launch in early 2027. Bookings are not open yet.
How Alvro will work in Portland
Hosts in the Portland area will list their own cars on Alvro. Alvro doesn't own vehicles. Once Alvro opens, guests will be able to book a host's car by the hour, day, week or month. Some hosts will offer delivery to an airport, hotel or address, which could mean a car waiting when you land at Portland International Airport. Protection plans will come through licensed third-party insurers. You can read the steps on how Alvro works.
Trips Alvro is built for in Portland
- Airport arrivals. Skip the rental counter when a host offers delivery to the airport.
- Arena and holiday weekends. The Trail Blazers play at Moda Center in the Rose Quarter, the Timbers play at Providence Park, and the holidays bring events to Pioneer Courthouse Square. Our Portland November guide covers the city's busiest weekends.
- Day trips by the hour or the day. Book a car for as long as the trip needs, from an errand to a week.
- The drive to Boise. I-84 follows the Columbia River Gorge east. Our Boise to Portland road-trip guide has the details, and Alvro is launching in Boise too.
Getting around at Portland International Airport (PDX)
Portland International is about nine miles northeast of downtown. The MAX Red Line station is at the south end of the terminal, and the line runs to the Rose Quarter Transit Center, across from Moda Center, and on to Providence Park. Follow the signs from baggage claim to the Rental Car Center. Rideshare pickup is at the Transportation Plaza, on Level 1 of the Short-Term parking garage.
For Portland hosts
If you own a car in the Portland area, you will be able to list it and share it. Hosts will keep up to 90% of every trip. Under Alvro's fee schedule, the host's share will depend on the host protection tier the car is listed under: 90% (Basic), 85% (Standard) or 75% (Premium). Alvro will keep the rest as its commission. When you are ready, become a host.
How Alvro checks drivers
Alvro pulls motor vehicle records (MVRs) under admin review. Staff decide when a record is pulled.
